Bringing Spirit Back into Medicine — introduction

Many years ago I began writing these short stories to capture the spirit present in the consulting room — where the appointment becomes a meeting, or dance, between two magical beings. I like to think of them as my songs.
Many years ago when I started writing these short stories I had in mind to try and find a way to capture what was really going on between the doctor and the client, and to capture something of the spirit that was present in the consulting room.
Clinical medicine can become too clinical and objective, and this tends to happen when time is at a premium and the doctor’s main concern is in making a physical diagnosis. When the doctor understands that there is a much bigger story — that the human being is not just a body which is dysfunctional but a multidimensional and complex matter-energy-information system, a body with an underlying emotional, mental and spiritual dimension — then the appointment becomes a meeting or dance between two magical beings. In this process there is an objective and a subjective component. These stories try and capture the subjective process, that which is generally not spoken or written about.
The stories have no particular purpose or teaching. They may have meaning for you and that is great. I like to think of them as my songs. Enjoy each one, and let them resonate with you for a while before moving on.
